This week the city finally made a decision as to where Ringo Starr’s 800- pound polished steel sculpture of his hand making a peace sign would come to be displayed Beverly Gardens Park.
Starr and his wife, Barbara Bach, have been Beverly Hills residents since 1992. Starr’s gift to the city is set to be installed in the park this fall.
Originally slated to be installed on the grounds of City Hall, the placement of the 5’8″ homage to peace met with some community opposition once it became known that it would be at the corner of Rexford and Santa Monica Boulevard.
“Placing the sculpture in Beverly Gardens Park between Crescent Drive and Canon Drive is ideal,” said Arts and Culture Commissioner Deborah Frank. “It’s in an excellent location where it will be visible from Santa Monica Boulevard. There will be ample room for visitors and local residents to engage with the artwork, and of course it’s perfect for Instagram.”
