The Courier’s editorial policies require writers to confirm facts, including names, titles, dates, quotes and other pertinent information before publication. If needed, minor edits may be made to quotes to improve clarity but will never change the meaning of the quote.
Our policies require that writers and editors refrain from sensationalizing or otherwise providing commentary about local news items. Headlines are crafted to fairly summarize the essence of the story, rather than to provide a particular slant.
The Courier’s news decisions are independent of advertisers, governmental entities or outside interests or pressure. Advertisers are not guaranteed editorial coverage unless they purchase clearly labeled “Advertorial.” Similarly, the failure to buy advertising does not impact editorial coverage or decisions.
The Courier’s writers maintain the confidentiality of sources needed in the news gathering process.
Any reader who believes that something in the Courier is inaccurate should contact the Courier and explain the inaccuracy. The Courier will promptly investigate and make any necessary and appropriate correction to the online version of the paper. If the inaccuracy is major, the Courier may decide to run a correction in a subsequent issue.
