The cities of Beverly Hills, West Hollywood, and Santa Monica have launched the first-of-its-kind collaborative public art initiative celebrating the Route 66 Centennial. All three cities will present “Path Discovery” by artist Vinnie Hager, a series of graphic artworks that will appear as vinyl wraps on street poles in West Hollywood and Santa Monica, and as art banners along the Beverly Hills segment of Route 66 along Santa Monica Boulevard. The works feature customized Route 66 shields and colorful motifs inspired by the cultural legacy of the historic highway.
The collaboration marks the first time all three cities have partnered on a shared public art initiative, visually connecting Santa Monica Boulevard from West Hollywood to the ocean. Installations of “Path Discovery” began on Aug. 12, with each city adapting the artwork to its own stretch of Route 66. Additionally, each city is hosting a series of events to commemorate the program. In Beverly Hills a Route 66-themed art making featuring folded paper cars and maps will take place Oct. 17-18 at the Beverly Hills Art. Show. On Oct. 18, the Petersen Automotive Museum will facilitate a community project using a full-sized vehicle for kids and families to personalize.
